CLASSICAL FIELD THEORY II (PHY 506)

PROF. T. SCHAEFER

Classical Field Theory II was the most boring class I ever took. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THAT WAY! Come and see for yourself!

Outline

  1. Boundary Value Problems
Improve your problem solving skills. Learn about Green functions, tips and tricks, and numerical methods.
  2. Macroscopic Electrodynamics
Dielectrics, Magnetic Materials, Superconductors. Waves in Media, Dispersion Relations, Electromagnetic Plasmas, Plasma Oscillations, ..
Learn how classical field theory describes Superconductors, electroweak and quark-gluon plasmas, ..
  3. Classical Scattering
Scattering at long wavelength, Coulomb Scattering, Energy Loss.
Learn how classical field theory explains why the sky is blue, and how quark jets loose their energy when traversing a quark gluon plasma.
  4. Gravity
Curved space time, Einstein's field equations, weak field limit (Newton), Gravitational Waves.
Learn how a suitable generalization of electrodynamics describes how mass and energy warps space.
